How to quickly download paid research papers using Sci-Hub?

How to quickly download paid research papers using Sci-Hub?

       By  Rahul (narayan) Thapa

We are all aware that most prominent publications have expensive access fees, and the typical price of a research paper today is about $30. (2380 INR). This is due to the current approach, which encrypts publicly funded research behind paywalls put in place by publishers, who don't actually contribute any further value to the work on their own. On the internet, there are numerous websites that claim to provide access to such paid research articles, however, my personal favorite is Sci-Hub. Sci-Hub is without a doubt one of the most incredibly controversial websites available today and has emerged as a famous platform for the open access (OA) movement, particularly in South East Asia. As researchers or academicians from developing nations cannot afford to pay exorbitant prices for research papers. Due to this, Sci-Hub is now the only place where you may get papers for free.

Therefore, this article is to demonstrate how to get around paywalls so that you can get research papers for free. Please be advised that viewing these websites is prohibited in many nations, therefore use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to mask your identity. Hence, this article will step-by-step explain how to download the premium publications from Sci-Hub for free.

What is Sci-Hub?

Sci-Hub is a Shadow Library website that, in various methods, gets through publishers' paywalls to give readers free access to millions of research papers and books without regard to copyright. The website is heavily used all over the world. According to the site's owners, as of September 2019, it processed 4,000,000 queries daily. According to estimates, 95% of all scientific articles with assigned DOI numbers are available on Sci-Hub. Before providing a list of Sci-Hub alternatives, consider the full download procedure.

Effects of Sci-Hub

There are two sides to every coin, and Sci-Hub is no exception. One benefit is that by simply pasting millions of research papers' DOIs into the Sci-Hub search bar, researchers can download them for free. However, since publishers rely on subscription services to generate revenue, the free access to journal articles for academics will have a significant negative impact on their business model. They won't have any "Control of the Content," which is why.

How can download research articles?

The research article can be downloaded using two methods.

               (1) Title Search                                                           (2) DOI link address

DECODING THE STEPS

Steps 1: Copying the Title of the Research Article or DOI link address.

(a) Title: "The synergistic effect of urban heat and moisture islands in a compact high-rise city."

(b) DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.buildenv.2021.108274

Step 2:  Type SCI-HUB in the search tab of your Google's Chrome Browser, or in Safari Apple, etc., and then open the main user face of the SCI-HUB Website, you will get the same image as I have uploaded below 👇.

Step 3:  Copy the exact DOI link or title and paste it into the search tab. Sometimes, pasting the exact title may not work, so use the DOI approach. See below: and then Click on “OPEN” or press the ENTER button and wait for a while.

Note: Not all research articles and books are available for download from the SCI-HUB.

Step 4: You can now download using the Save button to download in the upper right corner or the left sidebar.

What is currently happening with Sci-Hub?

Recently, after hearing a lawsuit against Sci-Hub in recent disputes in India, the Delhi High court limited the websites there. Wiley, Elsevier, and the American Chemical Society brought that lawsuit jointly. Restrictions include publication and article uploads until January 6, 2021. As a result, except for a few batch releases of content, new articles have not been added to the site on a regular basis since 2021. A requirement of the court case Sci-Hub is defending against Elsevier in India led Elbakyan to decide to halt new uploads.

Note:
Elbakyan and Sci-Hub were previously sued twice in the US for copyright infringement between 2015 and 2017.; they lost both cases by default, which resulted in the loss of several of their Internet domain names. Since then, the website has used a variety of domain names. Which is changing constantly.

If not Sci-hub, then another legal source, researchers are publishing prepublication copies of their work in greater numbers (often called preprints). You can get these study draughts for nothing. However, these preprints frequently have not yet undergone a peer review process.

Waitt! the above link is not functional?

Researchers don't need to fret, though; simply click one of the URLs supplied to access the Sci-Hub. Currently, the following URLs are active:
